Oklahoma stone veneer is a cost-effective way to improve the look of your home. Putting stone on front of houses can become a major undertaking when you rework everything with building stone. Stone facing on houses, or stone veneer, is a much simpler process.

Adding Stone Veneer to House Exterior

Before adding the Oklahoma stone veneer to the exterior of any building, make sure that it is structurally sound. You put stone facing on houses for aesthetic purposes, not to cover up problems. Structural damage will only get worse over time.

Once you know that your home is safe, choose your stone, and begin adding stone veneer to house exteriors.

How to Install Stone Veneer on Exterior Wall

Before putting the stone on front of houses, make sure that you have: Stone veneer, a Trowel, Lath, a Masonry mortar, a Moisture barrier.

First, clean your work surface carefully. If you install stone veneer to new or unfinished exterior walls, you will need to add a moisture barrier such as roofing felt and nail it down securely. You will not need a moisture barrier if there is already masonry on the home.

The next step is to secure a lathe with nails or screws. Use masonry screws or nails if you are working on brick. Once this is done, use the trowel to apply a 1/16″ to 1/2″ thick as a scratch coat. Make sure that there are no holes, and the surface is even.

You might want to lay your stone veneer out before placement, particularly if you are using a pattern. Add mortar to the back of the stone evenly. Press and hold it against the wall for at least five seconds.

Repeat the same steps. You may need to measure and cut stones to complete a wall, so it is best to work in small sections. After installing the stone veneer, even out the mortar and remove the excess from the stone with a brush.
